Wellington Vandal
Self published photobook, 2018
Stories of Wellington are bleak. A ghost town, filled with a hollowed out town centre. Locals unwilling to use the main street for fear of aggression, shattered glass or over zealous bible bashers. Even the job centre has shut and moved away.
People tend to have a love-hate relationship with their hometown but woe betide anyone else call it a ‘shit-hole’. Peppered with news of right wing groups and grooming gangs, two years after the EU referendum (where the town had voted to leave) I documented the streets and spaces that I grew up in.
Wellington Vandal is a collection of photos inspired by childhood vandalism, discordant environments and how communities inadvertently ‘create’ when given very little.
